Warapitiya undergraduate's murder -- Updates 2

Drug-addict in dowry-robbery in midnight .... kills Warapitiya Lalani Nadeesha

Lalani Nadeesha the external undergraduate student living in Warapitiya, Ukuwella, Matale was murdered in the month of May about 6 months ago on the wedding night of her brother and the killer of this young girl has now been arrested.

The suspect taken into custody on suspicion was a robber addicted to drugs and on the said night he had entered the house and had tried to rob the dowry-money and on later noticing Lalani Nadeesha sleeping on bed, had raped her. After a DNA examination it was confirmed that it was this very same person who had killed her.

Initially since the suspect had not displayed any signs of suspicion when taken into custody by the Crime Section of Matale Police with regard to this murder, he was released by them after being questioned.

When in custody that time, he had played a 'role' leading the police astray saying, "Sir .... for everything you put us in the cell .... we can't stay inside this. Sir .... if you are suspicious .... check my blood at anytime".

It was after securing the blood sample for DNA examination that he had been released after interrogation. On investigations conducted by Matale Police and the CID of blood samples of 16 persons taken on suspicion were handed over for DNA examination to Borella Gintech Institute.

After it was confirmed at the post-mortem that the deceased was raped, specks of spermatozoa detected within the body of the deceased were sent to Gintech Institute for a DNA examination after permission was granted by courts.

On comparison of the blood samples and specks of spermatozoa with each other, it was possible to identify the suspect. As such, the suspect was taken into custody when he had come in search of a job in Kaduwela area.

It was revealed that this murderer was responsible for several robberies, looting and abusing in close proximity to the Banneheka Walauwwa in Warapitiya.

This suspect who was addicted to ganja and liquor was involved in robbing female underwear too.

Last May 23rd afternoon when this murder took place, it happened to be the wedding day of Nadeesha's elder brother Mr. Kalpa Dhanushka and on that very day the suspect had entered the house in the midnight with the intention of robbing the money given to the bride and the monies given by those invited for the wedding, simultaneously, according to revelations by the suspect.

Having seen Nadeesha sleeping on the bed after he entered the house, he had developed an urge over her and leaving aside intentions of robbery, he had dealt her a blow on her head and had carried her outside the house so that the mother of Nadeesha sleeping beside her and the others were not aware of what happened and finally raped the girl, it is now being revealed.

The investigating team suspect that Nadeesha may have breathed her last from the blow aimed at her head by the suspect.

Before Nadeesha was killed, she had been sleeping with her mother. It was the suspicion of the investigating teams as to whether anybody else had aided the assailant to carry the girl outside the house. Nadeesha's nude body was found in a canal bank close to Banneheka Walauwwa.

The CID is conducting further investigations regarding the murder.
