Much information is now being revealed about the disappearance of the Principal of Hewavitharna Maha Vidyalaya of Rajagiriya Mr. Chitrapala Nagasingha (46) last 19th a few hours before the celebrations which the President attended.

This vidyalaya is situated in an environment where drug-trafficking is in operation in a big way. Sons and daughters of such people too attend this school and the said Principal had been from about 2 years greatly been dedicated towards the progress and development of the school. He had been a person who had taken steps to bring about a healthy environment within the school. Since he had worked towards the eradication of the drug menace, there are clues that he has had misunderstandings with the drug-dealers. Further, there is information that a provincial political stalwart too has been against the activities of the Principal.

The Principal who did not wish to have his work interfered with, it is learned, had hoped to present his woes in the presence of the President when the latter was to come to the vidyalaya that day, expecting to find a quick solution.

However it was before that that the Principal had mysteriously disappeared. As a result, officers conducting investigations on this have suspicions that there  is a set of people who are behind this mysterious disappearance of the Principal.

Whatever it is, when inquiring into this sudden disappearance, it certainly is a complicated situation and it cannot be easily understood.

This Principal Mr. Chitrapala Nagasingha who migrated to Colombo from Beliatta area is a bachelor aged 46 years and possesses 20 years' experience in schools. He had lived at his elder brother's house in Kottawa. His elder brother Premasiri Nagasingha who is a Lecturer at the University of Colombo had been resident in this house with the wife and son.

Chitrapala Nagasingha won a reputed name as an Assistant Teacher who even was acclaimed as the Best Science Teacher in Beliatta. Later he served as the Deputy Principal in 2 schools and it was at this school that he achieved position of Principal 2 years' back. As he was single, and because of his devotional interest, it is said that he would come to school on all 7 days and had given of his duties often remaining there. He was subjected to the affection of children of the school as well as their parents too.

It was because of his efforts that the vidyalaya was able to get the new Mahindodaya Technological laboratory. This Mahindodaya lab was scheduled to be opened last 19th and Mr. Nagasingha had prepared for the day well in advance as if for a wedding. During these last few days he had come home after school after 11 in the night. He had even bought a suit to be worn on the day of the arrival of the President and it is said that he was to get the suit ironed and set off early that morning. About 3 kms away from the Kottawa house where he was living, a certain Assistant Principal too had lived and on some occasions it was the custom of Principal Nagasingha to visit this Assistant Principal whenever he wanted to convey a message.

On the day of this particular incident, the Principal had got up early in the morning and had prepared himself to go for the celebrations. In the meantime the elder brother together with his son had left home around 6 in the morning and when the brother's wife had wanted to leave the house, the Principal too had come out of the room to go out. Mr. Nagasingha who was clad in normal clothes had then told her, "Akke.... close the door and go .... I am going to the Assistant Principal's house to hand over some keys .... I'll be coming back again". Later he had left the house in his motor cycle. (That was the last time that people in the house saw him).

He had approached the Kottawa  house of the Assistant Principal and had handed him the bunch of keys of the main door of the vidyalaya including the keys of the office room and had said, "It'll take a little bit of time for me to wear the suit and come .... before that you go and open the doors with these keys ... because I came to know that the security unit of the President will come in advance. When I come .... we'll discuss the rest of the work". After that the Principal had left again on his motor cycle around 6.45. A lady lawyer of a neighbouring house had seen how he had once again come near the gate of his brother's house at about 7 that morning. But after that nobody has seen him at any time after that. His Honda CD 50 type motor bicycle bearing No. 157-4007 too is not to be found.

The delay of the Principal even upto the moment of the arrival of the President for the celebrations was incredible for the staff of the school and though they had tried to contact him over his phone, it was found that he had deactivated his phone according to what was relayed as a recording.

In the meantime, the proceedings of the occasion were handled by the Deputy Principal while teachers and parents of the students had set out in search of the Principal.

The elder brother of the Principal too had got upset and had begun to search for him from morning until evening along Kottawa roads where the Principal had gone about. It was because of that the Lecturer brother had complained to Kottawa Police about the missing Principal.

On investigations by police and and when checking the Principal's room, the suit which he had kept aside to be worn on the special occasion was found intact and that had not been ironed. It was also possible to locate his deactivated mobile phone lying on a side of the room. Though a certain person had seen him returning home after meeting the Assistant Principal, preliminary investigations did not reveal that he had come home once again. It is a mystery to note that he had switched off his phone and to find that he had gone somewhere on purpose.

When checking the last two numbers he had called, the closest numbers that could be detected were that of the Assistant Principal and a shop supplying festive goods in Kirullapona area. It was later revealed that that shop had supplied some service required for the festival in school. Police say that the investigation report requested about the rest of the phone calls from the telephone company which is still not available.

It was only a few days ago that suspicious evidence about underground elements of Obeysekerapura, Rajagiriya was secured as being behind this particular disappearance. Investigations in this respect too is underway; but still there is no proper news about the Principal.

Parents of the students had launched a protest recently asking that the Principal  who had brought the school to this status be found without delay.

Police investigations are still being conducted.
