Wariyapola Facebook video incident revealed

Wariyapola assault .... last revelation

A video covering an incident which took place at the bus halt in the town of Wariyapola, Kurunegala last week was shown across the Facebook which then resulted in a big hulabaloo.
This scene showed an incident where a girl was reprimanding a young man who is supposed to have cast a remark on her, with the girl later clouting him on his ear. This scene lasted for about one and
a half minutes. It was seen that the girl concerned was reprimanding the youth near a bus-halt and slapping him on a number of occasions on his ear while he was seen to be keeping quiet, facing her assaults. Somewhere in the centre, a person engaged in some official duty also was observed.

Though it was not clear as to who had released the video over the internet, after it was shared by several viewers across the internet, numerous dialogues began to develop over this incident.

As no description accompanied the said video, some viewers remarked that a security officer of a Minister was seen in the middle while the girl was either a relative  or someone who had some connection with an affluent individual. Since at first glance the young man did not give the appearance of a Sinhala Buddhist, some others attempted to give this issue a racist outlook to it. In the meantime, there were others who appreciated her behaviour  for having risen against harassment to women, calling her a 'Wariyapola Kumarihamy'. What some others said was, assaulting the youth and reprimanding him in a serious fashion over and over again even after he admitted his fault was the act of a low-grade girl.

While this incident is being talked about from various angles, after a few days, fictitious information began to emerge about the girl, the youth and the 'person in between'.

Upto that time nobody had made any attempt to find out the truth behind this incident. In the meantime it was partiality revealed in a few pages of the Facebook as to who these three persons were, the truth was exposed from the viewpoint of those who saw the video. They had identified them as political stooges, prostitutes, etc. However, it was only yesterday that news correspondents of Wariyapola had taken the pains to dig into the truth of this incident which had spread across the internet.

As such, it was confirmed that this incident did occur at Wariyapola bus-stand and it came to be known that the girl connected to the incident was one Thilini Imalka alias Madhu and that it was learned that when she had come to go to Colombo the incident began when a drunk boy began to 'honk' at her.

What the youth Robertdasage Chandradasa alias Selva who faced the assault said was, that although he cautioned the two girls not to go dressed in that way, he did not think that it would go so far.

It was the Timekeeper of Wariyapola bus-stand, one Jayasingha who had been in the midst of this. He had testified that this incident took place because the youth was intoxicated; but there was nothing worth that happened for the girl to keep on reprimanding him continuously for 45 minutes.

This is what the girl related to the media: "What happened there .... those who were there know. I had a look at the net yesterday .... it was shown there in a very dirty way. A lot of boys are angry about that scene of what happened. They don't know of what really happened. A lot of boys are angry with me. But saying so, nobody has gone to the extent of even laying a hand on me ... because the law is tight. I was told to go to police. I came away thinking of that boy. I was on my way to Colombo. Everyone looking at that video will see what sort of a boy that is. He had taken some intoxicants so much that he was so intoxicated that he couldn't stand straight. I can do something like that .... for my safety.

This is what the assaulted young man told the media: "When I went to the town, there were 2 girls. I told them, 'don't wait like that .... there are boys in the town'. Later when I was being given blows, I realised that I am at fault. I said I was sorry. Even while asking pardon, I was beaten in front of the crowd. I didn't hit her back because I was a man .... I was patient because she was a female".

Timekeeper Jayasingha who was attached to this issue said: "If the girl wanted to assault him, she could have gone away after hitting two or three times. This beating took place for about 45 minutes no .... sin .... that fellow worshipped. What did she do by beating him so many times?"

The media who went in search of the 3 persons have reported that none of them who were connected to the incident had any issue concerning religion or politics. This was solely an incident where a boy who poked fun at a girl was reprimanded by her and the scene concerned was stimulated by those who were watching the scene, it was then concluded.
