Tangalla case: Sampath Chandrapushpa speaks ....

Tangalla Chairman Sampath Chandrapushpa revealed through DNA ....     as having raped Victoria .... speaks

Data obtained in connection with the murder of Kiram Shaik and his lover Victoria raped at a Tangalla hotel at the trial across DNA reports a few days ago  confirmed that the Chairman of Tangalla had committed the offence of rape on Victoria. What the Chairman however said at the dock was that, leaving aside rape .... he had not even thought of such a thing.


Former Chairman of the provincial council, Sampath Chandra Pushpavidanapathirana yesterday (07) expressed matters at the dock of the Colombo High Courts in connection with the incident that took place during the Christmas party in Tangalla at Nature Hotel in the following manner: "I wish to mention that with relevance to the evidence expressed in courts regarding this case that I am not connected to any offence. I was asked to come to Tangalla Police to give a statement in connection with an incident which happened at the 'Nature Hotel' on December 25th, 2011. As such,I went there accompanied by a lawyer.

Since I was present at a party held at that hotel, I thought that the police wanted to record a statement from me. I answered questions put forward to me by the police.

That day when I went to the hotel, its Manageress and the others welcomed me. I was provided a table; was asked necessary details and those were provided.

By 12 midnight firecrackers were lit at the hotel and adjoining hotels to celebrate Christmas. When seated at the table, those whom I knew came and spoke to me. After a short while, a noise of a brawl was heard. I couldn't identify those people. As DJ music was being played, the lights were dim. Therefore it was not possible to identify clearly those involved in the clash. I saw some outsiders also. Because I thought that it won't be a suitable thing to hang around further in the hotel, I got up to leave. At that moment a person pushed me. It maybe that he pushed me because he didn't identify me. I also didn't know him. Another person came towards me armed with a bottle. Then I grabbed the bottle and threw it aside. Friends who were with me were cautious about my safety; so were those at the hotel. They took steps to take me away from that place.

I told police in that manner. When I surrendered to the police, I was taken into custody and put in remand. I came to know that several others were remanded. I reject all these allegations.

That day I went to the party not with the motive of murdering somebody, to rape someone or to do any damage to any property. As the Chairman of the PC I have no intention to make a commotion in any hotel or to be a participant in any such thing.

I believe that this allegation was aimed at me in order to destroy my political career. In politics one has to face various forms of allegations. I became directed to Politics at a very young age and got the opportunity of being appointed as a Chairman of Tangalla Provincial Council. I was subjected to jealousy of various people. When I came into Politics and became Chairman of Tangalla PC my age was 24 years. I was appointed Chairman not to create a commotion in that area or to give support to those things.

I was motivated to Politics to do some service to my area. In such cases, being subjected to allegations and mud being thrown at is not something to be surprised at. I am not the only and the last person who was subjected to allegations of this type. Such things happened before this .... it will happen in the future also. Those who are against my activities and those who are jealous of my political life have made me get involved in matters such as this. This incident has been made use for the purpose of creating inconvenience to leaders of my Party.

It is the first time that I had to face an allegation like this and face a case. I apologize to Courts if any inconvenience has been caused at this trial. I do not hold myself responsible over these allegations. I request that I be exonerated of these allegations. I request that I be given an opportunity for release to give of my service to my area and country and the duty that I have been motivated to carry out by birth.
