Praise from USA for Sri Lankan fighting expert .... for displaying prowess against robber (CCTV)
A skilled boxer of Sri Lanka who pounced into the midst when a robbery was attempted in Houston, America at that moment and engaged himself in rescue operations was subjected to much praise and appreciation among news channels in that country. On the 10th of this month when this Sri Lankan, Mayura Dissanayaka was working in a shop located in Southway in Houston, America, a colleague who was getting down from the vehicle after visiting the bank and was approaching the said shop where the Sri Lankan was at that time, the two robbers had waylaid their victim, assaulting him and trying to grab his bag with money when this Sri Lankan fighter had immediately got into action putting up a fight with the robbers .... foiling their attempt.
One of the robbers had got away in the vehicle they had come in while the other robber became helpless lying on the ground after clouts from the Sri Lankan. They then took action to hand him over to the police.
Mayura Dissanayaka was an MMA exponent of Mixed Martial Arts. This fighting method which was an extension of the game of boxing is an art which is capable of dealing simple blows in a number of ways. Mayura had undergone this training method and together with the assistance of a trainer he had been displaying his fighting skills for Super Lite League too and is equipped with fighting experience for about 10 years. He is known in his mother country with the nickname 'Top Gun'.
While in America he works as a Stores Clerk in a shop affiliated to a gas station while the said incident had incidentally occured during the time he had been working in the shop.
CCTV recordings of the incident was broadcast over TV channels in the States and his fighting skills and on-the-spot action was applauded with appreciation. A part of a boxing competition in which he had participated while in his home country was adapted from CSN Channel and the American channels had broadcast it also in that news report.
The police reported that the robber who became a victim of Mayura and was taken into police custody was a 33 year old, one Odeli Matthis and that he was a noted criminal for robberies of this nature.
