'Sauce attack' and fisticuffs between .... two factions of doctors at Colombo National Hospital !
It was with the intervention of the police that an incident involving exchange of words, a 'sauce attack' and fisticuffs between two factions of members of the Government Medical Officers' Association last afternoon at the Colombo National Hospital was brought to a settlement.
On the occasion when the Medical Officers' Association had distributed handbills at the canteen of the Colombo National Hospital, a few hours later a group of doctors who had arrived on the 8th floor of the hospital where the Colombo branch of Government Medical Officers' Association were engaged in a conference had tried to disrupt the proceedings of the Association using obscene words on the doctors present there.
Heart Specialist Dr. Rohan Gunawardena and Dr. Sudesh Kottegoda were victims of the assault.
A 'sauce attack' was to be seen in the restaurant when the doctors were distributing the handbills there. It was understood that this conflict had taken place because a group had established a Colombo branch of the Government Medical Officers' Association separately contrary to the parent-society.
The police had intervened and brought the situation under control.
