Issue over educational qualifications of Mahagedera Thulsi ....
who became Human Resources Minister of India
Even before two or three weeks elapsed after teledrama actress Smriti Irani was elected as the new Cabinet Minister of India and took her oaths she has had to face an issue about her educational qualifications. It is also learned that if she is proved guilty of cheating, she would have to face political problems in the future.
Smriti Irani who livened the character of Thulsi in the series Mahagedera which became popular in Sri Lanka came forward to contest at the elections in India on two occasions in the years 2004 and 2014. The problem now is that the highest qualifications she had forwarded on two occasions in respect of her Degree happens to be contradictory to each other.
According to the application she had presented for 2004, she had mentioned that she had received a Degree in Arts in the year 1996 from Delhi University; but according to the one forwarded for the 2014 elections it says that she had secured a Degree in Commerce in 1994.
According to a decision taken in the year 2012 by the Supreme Court of India, the Elections Office has the right to reject nominations forwarded by candidates for nominations with inaccurate educational qualifications.
As such, if Smriti has committed an offence in this respect having presented nominations for the elections would be subjected to a judicial verdict. This issue has now become newspaper headlines in India as a serious offence and it has been reported that appointment of a candidate forwarding false education certificates for such a responsible ministerial position as the Minister of Human Resources Development in India is indeed unfortunate.
Whatever it is, what some other reports have queried is as to with what qualifications Sonia Gandhi had one Politics.
Indian media reports say that a suspicion has arisen as for the delay by Smriti Irani in solving this issue.
