 Mercy Edirisinghe Passes Away

Multi-talented tele-drama and stage actress Mrs. Mercy Edirisingha passed away this morning (Mar 17). Sometime back she was taken seriously ill and was treated at Kegalle General Hospital and later at a private hospital in Gampaha.


She was suddenly taken ill at her home in Warakapola, Ambepussa and was hospitalized. After this news came to light over the media, various individuals came forward to inquire about her condition.

She began her career as an artiste in Navaka Mandala singing programme in the year 1964 and launched herself into stage acting in 1967.

Comedy programmes she presented over the radio with outstanding comedians such as Samuel- Annesley-Berty became extremely popular and apart from that she became very popular because of her participation in radio programmes such as Handiye Gedera.

She underwent a womb operation after which she started suffering from several health conditions. Subsequently in her last stages she was warded in hospital to get herself cured for a nasty spine pain that she suffered from.

Mercy Edirisingha was to complete 50 in her career with the Arts this year.
