Chairman of Civil Aviation says that as a result of constructing an aircraft aerial track for A380 aircrafts which is the world's largest type of
airliner at Mattala --flights flying over Hambantota Mattala International Airport has increased and as a result of that, revenue made by Sri Lanka too has increased.
It has been planned so that these flights are to travel to their destinations within a specified time-period.
On such occasions their air route is decided across A380 flying track. He further mentioned thus: "In this way, we get an income even if the flights go over Mattala International Airport without landing there. Since the number of flights going over Mattala Airport is on the increase, earnings we get too has increased".
He also said that within a period of 1 year, over 1,900 air trips have been recorded at Mattala Airport and that a number of over 50,000 passengers have crossed the airport.
