Man who prepares for his death .... even before it happens
It is reported from Dambulla of a man who has prepared everything necessary when his death occurs.
This person is D.M. Punchi Banda (67) who is residing in Sathipola, Dambulla and is the father of 3 children while his wife has already passed away. Though all 3 children of his have been married and are resident in other areas, they do not look after his welfare much.
It is seen that from a few years before, he had made ready his coffin and kept it wrapped and tied with a large cloth and had put a polythene cover round it in order to keep away the dust.
What Punchi Banda said was that since death is an inevitable thing, he had made things possible for his final rites by preparing everything necessary from what he earned without troubling his children or relatives. As the present cost of a coffin is in the region of Rs. 15,000 - 20,000,he said that at the time he bought this coffin it cost Rs. 8,500.
He further says that these days he is putting aside his earnings and that that money he had paid the municipal council after which he has safely deposited that receipt in his box. Mr. Punchi Banda who has lost one of his arms in an accident is engaged in selling 'wade' at the Dambulla Sathipola which happens to be his mode of income.
