Dulanjalee Premadasa questioned .....
having tried to bank counterfeit money
Mrs. Dulanjalee Premadasa, daughter of former President Premadasa and sister of Sajith has been subjected to interrogation by the Criminal Investigation Department for having tried to bank a bundle of counterfeit cash notes to the value of R. 20 lakhs at a private bank.
It is learnt that she had attempted to deposit 400 cash notes, each to the value of Rs. 5,000 at a private bank in Kurunduwatta area. When Mrs. Dulanjalee Premadasa was questioned, she had said that the cash notes under reference had been given to her by another person. She also has revealed that he person referred to is a director of a garment factory and this money was given to her for the purpose of settling a loan.
Subsequently the police took steps to arrest the person who had been living in Pita Kotte and who had given the money to her. Police also has discovered further bundles of such fake cash notes in the house of this person.
What the Police Media Spokesman said was that Mrs. Dulanalee Jayakody too is being interrogated by the CID.
Mrs. Dulanjalee Jayakody had tried to deposit a sum of Rs. 20 lakhs last afternoon (25) at a private bank in Kurunduwatta, Colombo.
Mrs. Dulanjalee has been released after being questioned. Police are conducting further investigations into the matter.
