Schoolgirl suicides after Facebook photo issue

A schoolgirl of 16 years from a school in Kurunegala had committed suicide by hanging herself.

As reported, the incident as follows: Several photos where the deceased and her lover was supposed to be embracing had appeared published in a personal page of the Facebook and the Principal of the school had come to know about it through a lady-teacher of the school. He had personally browsed the
Facebook and had lost his temper and had warned the girl concerned about the photos being published in that manner. Later, he had even asked her to bring her parents to school.

However, having faced much embarassment she was not able to inform this to the parents and had spent her time within the walls of her room at home. The next day the householders had on inquiring about her had seen that she had committed suicide by strangling herself with a sari in the room yesterday (Feb 5).

The post-mortem had been conducted and it was confirmed that death was due to a case of hanging. The incident relating to photos published across the Facebook came to be known only after her death.
