How 'naraka baas' entered house .....
by making friends with the dogs
The 'naraka baas' who came to paint the house of murdered Miss Mel and was taken into custody a few days ago recently is shown in the photograph here -- when he was taken before the Judicial Medical Officer of Mirihana police. The suspect Samson Anthony George is 39 years old and is the father of 2 children. He had been engaged in labour work and is a resident of Dompe area.
He was a person who was accustomed to small acts of stealing wherever he used to go.
When he used to come for his usual painting-work on Sundays, he had been asked not to come on those days because the householders were not present on that day. As he was aware that the householders were to leave at about 6.15 in the morning, Samson had planned to enter the house by about 6.30 in the morning.
Though the dogs had begun to bark when he was entering the house, he had been able to enter the premises as he was friendly with these dogs. There had been 4 dogs and he had made friends with them when he was engaged in the painting- work. Thus he was able to gain access to the premises without any problem . As the door was closed, as planned earlier, he managed to gain entry by opening a window by removing the grill-bars and finally jump into the room. What he thought was that there was no one in the house. But as Miss Mel was engaged in some work upstairs, she did not know that a thief was upto his tricks downstairs. Samson who crept into the room had begun walking across the hall searching in other rooms when he unexpectedly ran into Miss Mel who was heading in the same direction. Miss Mel who realised that it was a thief who had entered the house when nobody was there had become confused and suddenly realised that it was their paint-baas. She had then asked him in consternation as to what he was upto.
Samson who then realised that he was identified because he was caught in the act had then become shocked thinking that he would be handed over to the police. He had then suddenly jumped on the body of Miss Mel with the motive of destroying any evidence about him. With this purpose in mind he armed himself with two knives and approached Miss Mel. At that moment what Miss Mel could do nothing other than shrieking. Her shriek came to an end with her neck being cut by Samson. He did not wish to stay there any longer after the incident because of the uncertain situation that prevailed. His clothes too were soaked by her blood.
He then picked up her expensive mobile phone and though he searched inside almirahs for money, he had found only a meagre Rs. 1200 inside the almirah. Finally he robbed some male clothing in the almirah together with a bag because he certainly could not proceed anywhere in his blood-soaked clothes. Next he decided to flee from the house in secret after dumping the blood-soaked clothes elsewhere and wearing the fresh clothes, as if nothing untoward had taken place.
However, he was unaware that CCTV cameras in the neighbourhood were awake.
Samson then set off to Hanwella from Battaramulla. It was quite late when he reached Dompe by bus. Having spent 500 of the Rs. 1200 on liquor in grand style, he came home walking as usual. He had even forgotten that he had committed a murder that morning. However, when he approached his house he could not do anything because the police had sorrounded his house and was awaiting his arrival.
The police were able to recover Miss Mel's Blackberry phone in his possession thus confirming the CCTV evidence. Whythis 'naraka baas' was brutal enough to commit such a murder for the purpose of money without considering the value of a human being is a big question.
