Lonely Pediatrician gets attention at last!

Lonely Pediatrician admitted to hospital .... for treatment

Sometime ago the media exposed the plight of retired Pediatrician Vinitha Ranjani Gunawardena who in the past had for a long time dedicated her life to providing health facilities to people living in the Mahaweli zone. However, she now happens to spend the sunset of her life in a Mahaweli store-room
resembling a wayside inn in Kajuwatta area. Minister of Health, Mr. Maithreepala Sirisena after instructing Dr. Palitha Mahipala, Director-General, Health Services, the latter had made a visit to the house of the retired Pediatrician where she was living at Kajuwatta, Dehiattakandiya and had inquired into her requirements. She was then escorted to the Polonnaruwa General Hospital for a surgery where she was provided with a lens to one of her eyes.

Dr. Mahipala, Director-General, Health Services too was present on the occasion and it is reported that she blessed Dr. Palitha Mahipala by holding his hands in hers.

Health Services officers were made to understand that the 81 year old Pediatrician Dr. Vinitha Ranjani Gunawardena was leading a solitary life in a place similar to a wayside inn only because of the revelation made by the media recently.
