Albino turtles in critical condition

Albino turtles brought to zoo ...
in poor condition
Dehiwala Zoological Garden authorities have observed that the health condition of albino turtles brought to the zoo a few days ago from the Kosgoda Turtle Conservation Centre are not of a satisfactory condition.

It has been noted that the health condition of two younger turtles of the four brought to the zoo are of a weak state and that it is difficult to familiarise them to sea water. Mr. Anura de Silva, Director of the Zoological Gardens say that these turtles are of a tender age of 6 months -- 1 year and that they run the possible risk of death.

Mr. Anura de Silva further said that it has still not been decided whether these animals are to be kept on exhibition or not because these four turtles are considered as production of the case. It was Balapitiya Magistrate's Court that issued orders that these albino turtles be handed over to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens.

An albino turtle which had died and was preserved in formalin was given to the Dehiwala Zoological Gardens on the first day.
