Saman De Silva vs Minister Bindu

Saman De Silva who was thoroughly drunk was singing with a cigarette in his mouth ....
because he reprimanded Minister Gajadeera ... he got involved with me

A Minister from the Southern province has been accused of assault on popular singer Saman de Silva. The singer said that when he was singing at a musical show held at the Welikada prisons last Saturday (Nov 31) night, Minister Bindu Weerasingha of Southern provincial council had assaulted him and that there is no reason for the attack.

Subsequent to the assault, Saman de Silva had lodged an entry with the Borella police an order was issued by courts that the said Minister be produced in courts.

In the meantime, the Association of Singers too had got together yesterday and launched a protest over the incident.

What Minister Bindu Weerasingha says about this something different. Expressing his ideas about the incident, hat he says is that he did not make any assault, but since Saman de Silva had got on stage and excessively drunk and had reprimanded  Subject Minister Chandrasiri Gajadeera and him in an indecent manner he was only questioned why he did so.

The Minister further said that the information conveyed by certain media about him is absolutely false and that the manner in which that singer behaved on that occasion is so degrading. This is what he told:
"I also was invited to a football match which was arranged by the Intelligent Unit of the prisons. When I asked them as to what they needed for it, they said they needed certificates. I provided them with the certificates. Later, I and  Subject Minister Gajadeera attended the prize-giving and the awarding of the certificates. The Minister left a little early fr some other necessity. However, I stayed back.

At that point Saman de Silva got on stage and started singing and while performing said 'we're all enjoying this moment ... but the Minister is not here today'. I heard the comment and told an officer, 'that statement is not correct,' and for the singer to immediately withdraw his statement and to apologise for it. That officer told him about it. But Saman de Silva paid no attention to it and what he said in public was, 'there is supposed to be another Minister here ... aney we of course don't know this Minister'. At this time he was fully drunk and was singing with a cigarette in his hand. Being drunk, he insulted me also.

At that moment, I approached him and asked him why he was making such statements. That is what happened.

Because of this confusion that took place at that time, the musical show also had to be stopped. A situation like this occured because of this singer behaving most immodestly. What the officers there hoped for ... did not materialise ... he destroyed the enjoyment.

The story that I had taken liquor was totally wrong. From a few months ago I have been taking medicine. I don't drink liquor. I am not a Minister who who is being escorted by security guards. Neither do I carry weapons. Because of this incident, certain elements are trying to destroy my political career, which is a very sorry state of affairs.Everyone who was there knows the truth of the situation which happened there.
