Procedure adopted in closing roads in Colombo , alternatively: Nov. 9 - 18In view of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting to be held in Colombo next week, a number of roads in Colombo will be closed at alternate times from Nov. 09 - 18 for providing easy transport for their sojourn here. For facility of those travelling across Colombo during the above same, mentioned dates with regard to same, changes made in this connection were released to the media by the police officers:
These changes will come into effect from the moment the Heads of State participating at the Meeting would arrive at Katunayaka airport and then travel along Colombo - Katunayaka Expressway through Baseline road, Borella across Thummulla, gaining access to Galle Road while certain changes would be effected according to events held at locations such as Nelum Pokuna, BMICH and Water's Edge.
As such, the manner in which roads in Colombo would be closed from Nov. 9 - 18 at alternate times would be as follows:

01. Arrival of Heads of Government at Katunayaka airport and departure from Colombo

Katunayaka - Colombo Expressway, New Kelani Bridge, Bandaranaike roundabout, Orugodawatta junction, Dematagoda junction, Borella junction upto Kanatta roundabout; Baseline road, Bauddhaloka mawatha, Thummulla junction, Bambalapitiya junction, Galle road, Colpetty junction, Galle Face roundabout, Old Parliament roundabout, Lotus road, Bank mawatha, Ceramic junction, Regal junction, Chittampalam A. Gardiner mawatha, roundabout near Slave Island junction.

viii. From Kannangara mawatha, F.R. Senanayaka junction to Nelum Pokuna roundabout and upto Nanda Motors junction.

xx. From Bullers road, Kanatta roundabout to junction turning towards the direction of Jawatta.
Inclusive of the above mentioned routes, traffic will be limited on the following routes:
xxi. From D.S. traffic lights to Devi Balika Ayurveda junction, Welikada junction, Parliament junction and Jayawardenepura route, Sethsiripaya junction.
xxii. From office of Bribery Commission towards Malalasekera mawatha, Sarana road, Bauddhaloka mawatha.
xxiii. From Horton Nelum Pokuna roundabout to D.S. traffic lights.
xxiv. Route extending fromD.S. traffic lights, Baseline road to Polduwa Jayawardenepura route.
Alternate roads:
i. Permission has been given for long-distance heavy vehicles travelling along Havelock road towards Colombo to turn from Kirullapone junction to Baseline road to travel upto Borella, Maradana and Pettah.
This route has been permitted for traffic for long-distance buses and heavy vehicles travelling from Colombo to High Level road.
Heavy vehicles and long-distance buses travelling along High Level road Colombo could use this same route.
ii. Short-distance buses and light vehicles travelling to and fro from along High Level towards Colombo are expected to use Havelock road, Thimbirigasyaya road, Mahawatta junction, (police garage), Baseline road, Kanatta junction, Kinsey road, Ward place, Town Hall, Ibbanwala junction, Gamini Hall across Maradana and departing from Havelock road.
iii. Short-distance buses, light vehicles travelling towards Maharagama on the High Level road, Slave Island junction, Gangarama road, Piththala junction, Flower road, Rajakeeya mawatha, Reid mawatha, Thummulla and Havelock road.
Vehicles entering Colombo are permitted access to the above mentioned roads across Thummulla, Thurstan road, Flower road, Piththala junction, Gangarama road.
Vehicles travelling from Colombo, Dharmapala mawatha, Nelum Pokuna, Maya roundabout, Flower road, JOC junction, Rajakeeya mawatha, Reid mawatha.
iv. Heavy vehicles coming from the direction of Galle road to proceed along Pamankada road, Maya roundabout, Kirullapona, Baseline road, Borella across Maradana to Pettah and Colombo towards Galle via the same route.
v. An opportunity is provided for short-distance buses and light vehicles entering Colombo from Galle road to travel along Bagatalle road, R.A. de Mel mawatha, Thummulla, Havelock road, Thimbirigasyaya road, Baseline road, Kanatta road, Kinsey road, Ward place, Town Hall, Ibbanwala, Gamini Hall to enter Maradana.
vi. For short-distance buses and light vehicles travelling towards Moratuwa along Galle road to proceed along Gamini Hall, Ibbanwala junction, Union place, Ward place, Kinsey place, Kanatta, Baseline, Mahawatta junction, Thimbirigasyaya upto Thummulla.
vii. For 177 busescoming to Colpetty from Kaduwela to proceed along D.S. junction, Kanatta roundabout, Baseline road andfrom near police garage along Mahawatta junction, Thimbirigasyaya, Havelock road,Thummulla, Bambalapitiya, Galle road, Colpetty.
Subsequently along Kinsey place, Ward place, Soysa, Lipton, Slave Island, Gangarama road, Piththala junction, Flower road to Rajakeeya mawatha, Thummulla, Bambalapitiya.
viii. 177 buses travelling to Kaduwela from Colpetty to proceed along Sea road, Glenaber road, Galle road, Bagatalle road, Duplication road, Bullers road, Thummulla, Havelock road, Thimbirigasyaya road, Baseline road, Kanatta road, D.S. traffic lights, Jayawardenepura route.
These buses are to proceed along Thummulla, Thurstan road, Flower road, Piththala junction, Slave Island, Union place, Soysa roundabout, Ward place Borella.
ix. Buses travelling to Thummulla from the direction of Borella Kanatta to proceed along Baseline road, Thimbirigasyaya road, Havelock road, Thummulla and Bambalapitiya are buses on their trip. This route will apply to 154 buses from 0600 hours.
Route No. 2 where traffic rules are limited:
From Wijerama mawatha, Rosmead place junction upto Horton Wijerama junction along Wijerama mawatha, Horton place, Nelum Pokuna roundabout.

177, 175 buses or any passenger buses coming along that route should turn left from Battaramulla junction and going along Pelawatta road should turn right from Talawatugoda junction and proceed upto Pita-Kotte junction, Pagoda road, Nugegoda, Nawala road, Narahenpita, Thimbirigasyaya, Thummulla junction, Galle road upto Colpetty.
