Popular actor Cyril Dharmawardena passes away
Popular tele-actor and film actor Cyril Dharmawardena passed away today in Melbourne, Australia.
He had been suffering from lung cancer for almost one and a half years. He passed away today while undergoing residential treatment at Peter Mack Cancer Hospital in Melbourne. He was 67 years old at the time of his death. Mr. Cyril Dharmawardena who showed his skills in all three aspects of the cinema, stage and radio, displayed his prowess in stage-dramas through Kelani Palama and came into the limelight in acting in the popular tele-drama Hiruta Muwawee.
He displayed his skills as a radio artiste and also made his contributions through cinematic creations.
It is a matter of special interest that he passed away in the hospital where another artiste by the name of Shrinath Maddumage himself a resident of Melbourne was serving. Mr. Dharmawardena had been living in Melbourne for a period of about 5 years and once his health condition came to be known, Sri Lankan artistes and cricket stars had gone there and organised a tribute too.
Mr. Dharmawardena is an Old Boy of Richmond College and is a father of one child.
