Marathon bicycle race at Katunayaka highway
Colombo - Katunayaka highway was opened yesterday to the public for the purpose of seeing it without any payment and it is reported that a crowd of approximately 25,000 was present within the first twelve hours.
A marathon race, a walking race as well as a bicycle race was held across the highway in the morning hours from Peliyagoda - Katunayaka and Jaela - Katunayaka. Today, 23rd Wednesday, a hackery race, a school Art competition and a school band would be in progress. A barge-race in the Negombo lagoon, a Negombo three-wheeler race, a tug-of-war competition, a street and stage drama is expected to be held tomorrow.The distance of the Colombo- Katunayaka highway is 26 kms and it takes only 20 minutes to travel from Peliyagoda - Katunayaka. Four inter-exchange centres have been established at Peliyagoda, Kerawalapitiya, Jaela and Katunayaka.
