Hut Thilak's adventure

We were blindfolded .... and kept inside a room
- Hut Thilak explains

The person Hut Thilak who it was assumed to have been a Co-ordinating Secretary of Minister Mervyn Silva and possessing visiting cards and supposed to be only a friend of the Minister had returned home having been left isolated somewhere in Malabe subsequent to being abducted in Maradana.

A jeep belonging to him had been found in Maradana area and last evening he had once again come to the police in another jeep after which he gave a statement to the police over a period of 3 hours, thus exposing the story behind the kidnapping.

Hut Thilak alias Thilakasiri who had amassed a fortune by supplying huts on festival occasions had the number CC2013 in the vehicle in which he came to police yesterday. On querying about this number on the number-plate, the Commissioner of Traffic revealed to the media that such a number has not been registered at the department of registration of vehicles. From where did he get such an unregistered number? This poses a question.

Though Hut Thilak explained everything about his kidnapping to the police, no information could be found by the media until last night. However, police media spokesman exposed to the media of what Hut Thilak said, in the following manner: "On the very day the incident took place ... I went to the casino centre in Colombo and when coming back somewhere close to D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha, two persons who were dressed in uniforms similar to that of the police tried to stop our vehicle.

Then suddenly a van towards us and when they were getting ready to put us into the van we took to our heals, but we were able to run only a short distance. At that time they threw away my licensed revolver and the key of my vehicle. Later they came and threatened us and blindfolded us and put us into the vehicle. They too were blindfolded. They dragged us and pushed me and y security-guard Roshan into the vehicle. Roshan was blindfolded and they asked him to keep his face pressed onto the seats. It's difficult to say in which direction they drove the vehicle. Throughout the journey what they asked was whether we were trafficking in drugs to which question we answered in the negative.

Later, we were taken to a room in a certain house. There they assaulted us once again. They then asked whether we knew Minister Mervyn. I said that I am a Co-ordinating Secretary. Then they asked me to severe connections with him. When they asked whether I was a drug-trafficker, I responded saying that what I do is hiring huts as a business. But they didn't believe it. They then continued assaulting us. After that they gave us rice to eat.. with meat. When I said that I don't take meat, they gave a plate of vegetables. We were strongly advised not to have any association with Mervyn. After that they blindfolded us once again and brought us and dropped us in the night at Malabe Road. We were dropped there asking us not to move at least till some hours passed. First we thought that they were going to shoot and kill us. But that didn't happen. Actually it was near a paddy field that they left us ... so we went to a nearby boutique and asked for  assistance. Subsequently we got in touch with our home people and came. However they didn't take the1 lakh and 40,000 rupees we had in our possession. It was about 7 of them who were involved in this abduction   and we heard some female voices too ... but because we were blindfolded we couldn't identify anyone.
