Sunila Abeysekera who sang 'himin sere piyaa vidaa' ...,'udumbara hinehenawa ....'dies of cancer
Mrs. Sunila Abeysekera, a well-known Human Rights activist passed away Monday afternoon (09th).
She also contributed to films for which Premasiri Khemadasa supplied music, with her singing. She gave of her contributions by singing songs such as 'himin sere piyaa vidaa' and 'udumbara hinehenawa'. Mrs. Abeysekera who was awarded international awards with respect to Human Rights has authored a number of books and research works and has also been active as a women-activist.
Mrs. Abeysekera who had worked on a professional level for several non-governmental organisations had during the last stages of her life been suffering from a cancer and she finally breathed her last at a private hospital in Colombo. She was 61 years old at the time of her death. Her family sources said that her funeral arrangements would be notified later.
