Mysterious dead body in Kekanadura forest .... a murder .... because of an illicit love affair
A woman who had gone to Hillchrist estate in Kekanadura, Matara in the morning of last Monday to gather coconuts was shocked to notice the corpse of a woman lying in the forest. The corpse was bathed in blood and the head of the woman had sustained serious injuries.
Villagers informed Gandara police and though the police started the investigations after arriving at the scene of the murder, none of the villagers were able to identify the deceased. According to preliminary investigations conducted by the police it was revealed that a rock had been dropped on the woman's head several times which had caused her death.
The police had carried out a thorough search in the Kekanadura area and were able to recover a lady's handbag and travelling bag which belonged to the woman. All this were found in a well close to where the woman's body was found on 28th August. The police were able to understand that the dead woman was 49 year old Maddumage Lalitha Pushpakumari from Avissawella from the passport which was in the handbag.
For what purpose did a woman from Avissawella come to Matara? After search operations made by police in Kekanadura area day and night, they were able to take into custody 2 suspects for questioning.
According to information revealed so far, the deceased had been employed overseas as a domestic for about 10 years and had come to Sri Lanka last April. The husband of a woman whom she had come to know when she was abroad had lived in Nakuttiyagama in Kekanadura and the deceased woman had maintained an illicit relationship with him for about a period of 1 year.
Information has been received that the deceased had even from the moment of arrival at the house, there had been a drinking session going on there and because of an exchange of words that had taken place there, she had been taken into the shrub jungle and murdered.
Though this incident was revealed according to statements given by those at the drinking session, the main suspect is absconding arrest.
The police have begun investigations to arrest the main suspect and others connected to the incident.
