after 40 years
A strange incident was reported from Vietnam of a father and son who had been missing for 40 years were found living in a jungle. The two of them were found by a group of people who had gone to jungle. The two of them were found by a group of people who had gone to a jungle in Kwangh Nagi area in Central Vietnam to collect firewood. The father and son had been living in a camp-house fixed on top of a tree in the midst of the forest. The group of people who bumped on them accidentally became suspicious of them because they were trying to communicate with them in an ancient language. The father was in an ailing condition while the son was busy involved in the act of cooking something to give the father to eat.
Ho Wan Thah, the father was in his 82nd year while the son Vangh Lan was in his 41st year.
There had been a bomb attack on the house of the Van family during the Vietnam--American war in 1973 and on that occasion the wife and 3 children who were in the house had died. Ho Van Thah, it is revealed, had fled to the forest with the only child remaining; a baby of about 1 year. Because he was struck with great fear, he had not thought of coming out of the jungle and had then resolved to remain inside the dense jungle with his son amidst the animals and had even proceeded further about 40 kms into the interior of the jungle.
This father and son had got used to living a life akin to the veddas; cultivating crops and eating roasted meat.
Though their fear had not subsided even though time passed by, after the father had become ill, the son had tried to look after him and live that way. It was during this process that the firewood collectors had bumped into the two of them.
Though 3 members of his family had died from the bombing, the father however was unaware that his son Van Pri who was a 6 month old infant had escaped death. The baby had been brought up by the relatives and the father and son who were located quite by chance were able to identify the stranger yesterday.
As the father had not spoken to anybody for such a long period of time, it was with great difficulty he was able to converse and it was revealed that it was the most ancient Vietnamese mother tongue that he had used. However, it was revealed that the son too knew only two or three words of this language.
The two of them had lived for a period of 40 years inside a hut which had been erected with the aid of bamboo trees. They had cultivated crops and engaged in hunting for food. They had made use of barks of trees for their clothing.
The brother who had been in the village had however cautioned the authorities to take measures to prevent the father and son from returning to the jungle as such a possibility does exist.
