RUWANWELLA DOUBLE SUICIDES

Boy and girl minors commit suicide by hanging ....
because of being reprimanded for meeting in nights

     A case is reported of 2 minors, boy aged 16 years and girl aged 14 years from Weddagala have committed suicide after being disappointed for having been punished by parents. Both of them had committed suicide this morning.

  The two of them had been living in houses close to each other and have for some time been having a secret love affair and have been meeting in the nights; coming out of the houses and spending their time speaking to each other and kissing before returning to their homes.

  When the two of them had met each other last night too, an elder having seen this secret meeting had approached them and even called the parents of both sides and had subsequently advised them in public.  It is said that the two of them being minors had been highly embarassed on this occasion. Subsequent to this incident, and after the parents had fallen asleep in the night, the 16 year old lover who had faced this embarassment had committed suicide by hanging on a tree near the house. In the morning a crowd of people had gathered there after coming to know of this incident and because the lover was not in sight, those of the girl's household had searched for her.

   To the surprise of the parents, the girl was found hanging from a beam in a room in the house. It is suspected that this girl too may have died in this manner because of the heartache she had suffered at the public exposure and the suicide of her lover.

   Ruwanwella police are conducting further investigations in this connection.
