PRESIDENT FUND FILES A CASE AGAINST DULEEKA MARAPANA

A case was filed at the Colombo District courts against popular tele-actress Duleeka Marapana yesterday. The reason for legal action is that she had obtained a sum of Rs.10 lakhs from the President's Fund for an overseas training programme and had misused the money.

It was in the year 2005 that she had taken Rs.10 lakhs from the President's Fund applying for it on the understanding that the money was required to follow a drama-course in Great Britain to develop her acting skills. Authorities of the Fund have filed the case that although she has gone to Great Britain, she has not completed the course and further had not put the money into proper use.

Though the President and the relevant authorities of the Fund had sent her reminders on 3 occasions in the years 2005, 2007 and 2010, she had not shown interest in completing the course and therefore a case has been filed against her to remit the money back to the President's Fund.
