DAYASIRI TO CROSS OVER TO GOVT. TODAY

It is reported that Kurunegala district UNP m.p. is to cross-over to the government and that he is to make a special statement about it at 1.30 in the afternoon.

Though swearing in various ways that he was not switching over to the government party at a time when rumours were circulating that it would be so, news sources say that he would actually be crossing over to the government.

In the meantime, news reports published that President Mahinda Rajapaksa has given a written promise to give nominations to UNP m.p. Dayasiri Jayasekera for the provincial council elections to be held in the future for the position of Chief Minister.

As such, it is deemed that m.p. Dayasiri Jayasekera would be leaving his membership with the party and would be handing over his nomination papers for the PC from the UNDF.

Since those in authority have stated that though he applies from the UNDF, the position of Chief Minister cannot be given to him. It is reported that though he had temporarily dropped his idea to join the government, his hopes had been fulfilled because of this decision.

As soon as the President was informed that m.p. Dayasiri had dropped the idea of joining the government, political sources say that he was informed in documentary form that he would be given the position of Chief Minister.

As such, m.p. Dayasiri Jayasekera had told the the parliament today at 1.30 p.m. today that he would be leaving his position of m.p. He had informed of this to several leaders of the UNP by now.
