SMS in phone of student who jumped from 5th floor deleted?
Female-worker who saw her jumping .... still dumb
Much information has been revealed on investigations conducted over the death of the student who committed suicide by jumping from the 5th floor of the Science Faculty of the University of Colombo a few days ago.On the day she is supposed to have jumped from the building she had received 6 calls to her mobile phone while 3 of the calls had been from her father in Lunugamvehera. The police had called the other 3 numbers to find out from where they had come. However, a recording had said that the phone is inactivated which then had aroused a suspicion of the police. Who are the owners of those numbers? For what purpose were the calls given? What is the reason for the phones to be inactive at this time? Police are conducting further investigations on those lines. Another issue which drew the attention was the inquiry which was conducted in relation to the SMS she had received and sent by her. By the time her mobile phone was taken into custody by the police, the fact that all her SMS had been erased is another factor that aroused the suspicion of the police. It is still a puzzle as to whether she herself had deleted those SMS before committing suicide or whether such a thing was done by someone else after she was hospitalised. The police believe that the necessity to commit suicide without leaving any evidence is a problem to some extent.
Householders of the house of the deceased still maintain that her death is a mystery because of contradictory information received about the incident. Though information was received from the media and from evidence of police officers who conducted inquiry that she had fallen from the 5th floor of a building, they had received such information to the effect that she had slipped and fallen from a flight of steps.
The householders are unable to say who had informed them. It may be that somebody had given that message so as not to suddenly inconveniencing the deceased's parents who were living far away that they could understand the real situation after coming to the hospital. But her householders are surprised because even after they visited her at the ICU of the National Hospital after receiving the message they were told of a story by the campus student that she slipped and fallen from a flight of steps.
Even after 17 hours after the incident and at the time her postmortem was conducted, her father was properly unaware that she had jumped from the 5th floor of a building.
In the meantime, evidence was received by the Kurunduwatta police that an office female office-worker of the University had seen her jumping from above. Though the police went in search of her and tried to extract information from her, it had not been possible to get even a word from her mouth.
The police believe that she is still shocked over the incident. The police are trying to get information even at a later stage.
Further investigations are being conducted over the incident.
