Divers in Kettharama Canal to look for Siyam's mobile
The mobile phone of businessman Siyam Mohamed which is supposed to have contained much of the data required in the millionaire's murder was not found neither at the location where he was murdered or in the abandoned vehicle.
Information as to where the mobile phone was finally revealed after a long process of questioning from persons who had launched operations for the murder.
After Siyam was murdered, his friend Fausdeen had handed over the said phone to an accomplice of his and had instructed him to destroy it. As such, it is revealed that the accomplice had broken it into 3 pieces and dumped it into what is known as Kettharama canal or Sebastian canal.
Therefore, the CID employed the services of 2 Navy officers and diving activities had gone on for a period of about 5 hours. Later, the CID confirmed that pieces of the phone was found from the Kettharama canal.
Divers of the Navy were able to note that the data card and SIM with the stored telephone numbers of millionaire businessman Siyam Mohamed of Bambalapitiya who was kidnapped and murdered by a team of police officers serving under Vaas Gunawardena, DIG. CID sources say that much information necessary for investigation could be found out from pieces of the mobile phone. As such, much of the information so far not exposed about this murder will be known in the future.
Mr.Vaas Gunawardena, DIG and an IP together with 3 policemen who were supposed to be attached to the investigation unit of the DIG have been imprisoned. The 2 suspects including Fausdeen are being questioned , retained under detention orders.
By now, Criminal Investigation officers have taken into custody 2 pistols from the Peliyagoda police, suspected to have been used in connection with Siyam's murder. It was also mentioned that the CID have been able to secure a number of instances of crime which have been committed on a contract basis by the team of policemen.
