Jewellery businessman killed on Southern Highway

Today is a day when families start proceeding to their villages and a businessman as much as the others was on his way with family travelling to Tangalla from Maharagama , which trip ended in a disaster.
The luxury jeep carrying a mother, father, son and daughter was proceeding to their Tangalla ancestral home from Maharagama to spend their holidays when the vehicle overturned near 14th milepost at Gelanigama along the Southern Highway and a businessman named A.P.D. Shanaka who was driving the vehicle succumbed to his injuries this evening. He was 40 years old and was the owner of a jewellery shop in Maharagama.
His wife and daughter received serious injuries and by this time has been admitted to he Horana Hospital.
The businessman's son has escaped without injuries.
A pet parrot of theirs was found in a cage inside the jeep and it had not been harmed.
On investigations by the police it was revealed that the businessman while driving the vehicle had not strapped his seat-belt at the moment of the accident.
It is reported that the vehicle which struck the railing in the centre of the road had got thrown up about 50 feet in the air and that the driver had got thrown out from his seat and was run over by the same vehicle.
