Lover caught entering room in the nights
Daughter tells lover to kill father-mother for interfering in love affair
Murder committed having taken Tamil films as example
A gang of boys had entered the house of a rich businessman in Eravur, Chenkaladi in Batticaloa in the early hours of the morning on the 8th around 10 days ago and had killed the businessman and his wife and fled. Though the 16 year old daughter of the businessman too was in the house when the incident took place, she had been spared. The father of the deceased businessman living in the neighbourhood had heard his niece crying that night had come to the house to inquire the reason had then seen the double murder. Though nobody thought in the beginning that she was responsible for this murder, the police has now found that it has been planned sometime ago.
Rich 48 year old Sivaguru Ragu who had a shop selling gift items by the name of 'Wipra' and his wife, 41 year old Sundaramoorthi Wipra were the deceased. In the initial stages the police had used police dogs and a team of policemen to check fingerprints. The attention of the police was also drawn towards chillie powder which was seen at the house of the murder.
The police were unable to understand the motive for this murder because no signs of looting were observed and the businessman was a religious person having no enemies. Sivaguru Ragu is the father of 2 daughters. His 73 year old father was a retired principal. Ragu's elder daughter was living in an adjoining house with her grandfather and grandmother while the younger daughter resided with her mother and father in the house where the murder took place. The evening prior to the incident, Ragu accompanied by his wife, the two daughters and an aunt had gone on a shopping spree to Chenkaladi. It was to buy clothing for the approaching New Year. That night Ragu, his wife and daughter had come home and had had dinner at his father's house. After dinner Ragu and his wife had retired to bed around 9.30 that night. It was revealed that the killers had been hiding in the house and had later brutally killed the couple using knives. The police suspect that the assailants may have remained in hiding for some time to achieve their objective. It was also revealed on investigation that they had fled through the back door. Though there had been a large number of bangles to the value of a number of lakhs of rupees in Ragu's wife's hands, the murderers have not taken those. The dead body of Ragu had been lying on the floor of a room while Wipra's body had been found lying on a bed.
Ragu's father who had come to inquire the reason as to why the 16 year old girl was crying on seeing the two dead bodies had then informed the neighbourhood. The daughter who was crying had yelled and said "I don't know anything ..... someone had come and killed father and mother". However, on investigations by the police they had noticed some strange behaviour of the girl. Contradictory statements statements given by her on a number of instances relating to the incident on the day of the murder also aroused suspicion. The police also came to know about her parents strongly objecting to a love affair of the girl. The girl had detested her parents after a certain incident where her father Ragu had beaten up her lover, thus opposing the connection between the two.
The police kept on questioning her and was able to uncover everything. She finally admitted that this murder was committed because of the obstacles created by her parents for her love affair. She further confessed that this murder was planned a month ago by her lover who were still schoolgoing with two other accomplices, both being school friends of his. She also admitted that she had a very intimate relationship with her lover and that she had been habitually allowing him to enter her room through the window in the nights and her father on coming to know about this had one day got hold of him and beaten him up. After this incident the lover had been advised to keep out of bounds. She also confessed that from that day she and her lover had developed a strong hatred and in the end both of them had contemplated killing both of them.
For this purpose they had first planned of poisoning them to death. She also mentioned that on a number of occasions they had gone to pharmacies in Eravur town to buy sleeping tablets. But because only a limited number of pills is issued to one person on a single issue, all four of them had got together and bought the pills. She said that the pills were mixed secretly with the meals and given several times, but the parents had thrown away the food aside saying that the food tasted bitter. Therefore they had decided that murdering them could not be done in that manner and had dismissed that modus operandi. It was only after that the four of them had planned to kill the couple with weapons. She further mentioned that strategies employed by killers in seen in Tamil films such as 'Ayan' and 'Kuruchi' which films have become popular had helped them to plan out the murder.
A message had been sent for the murderers to come at about 12 midnight and that she would keep the back door open. The assailants were informed to wear socks instead of gloves and also to bring clubs and knives with them. When the time was ripe for the murder, she mentioned, she and the other three had approached the room where the couple was and then the lover had dealt a blow with a katty to the mother who succumbed to her injuries immediately. The father who awoke confused on hearing his wife shouting was given a blow in a similar manner. All this had taken place within the space of 20 minutes. The girl further confessed that after the killers confirmed to themselves that both had died, they had fled from the back door with blood-stained clothes spilling chillie powder along the way, fleeing towards the scrub-jungle nearby. According to her, the idea of spilling chillie powder had been picked up from a Tamil film and was done so that the scent of police dogs would be of no avail.
She then said that after that she had gone to her room and started crying when the grandfather happened to come in a short while later. On that occasion she had told him that an unknown person had come and murdered her father and mother.
The neighbourhood speaks with disgust about the daughter who got her parents killed by her lover in order to get closer to him. They mention that she was a schoolgirl who has had a number of love affairs and that the murderer-lover's affair had been of short duration. They also say that they believe that her behaviour would one day lead to a grave disaster.
According to her confession, police has taken steps to trace the suspects of this double murder.
