DAMITHA SEEKS LEGAL ACTION AGAINST SEMINI

Semini's allegation is an insult. I'll also legally claim 1000 million damages


   What was reported last week about Damitha saying that Semini had been going round hotels in the country was broadcast via an FM channel to which an angry Semini had filed legal action claiming 500 million.

   Damitha has already received a letter of demand to which she says that the complaint itself is an insult by itself and therefore she herself will file action claiming 1000 million from Semini.

   Though the news that tele-actress Semini Iddamalgoda has filed action has been publicised, Damitha says that she has so far not been served summons from any courts. She also says that the letter of demand directed to her by Semini's lawyers had been forwarded to her lawyers and that because the contents therein had challenged her with unfounded allegations, she would be legally claiming Rs.10 million as damages since it has damaged her reputation and that she has sent a reply in that respect.

  Damitha who says that there is nothing that she can gain in the Field or personally by insulting anyone connected to the Field of Arts also refuses to admit that she had defamed Semini. She further says that if legal action is taken for such unfounded issues and thereby damage her reputation and her name which she built up by remaining as an artiste on the stage, cinema, teledramas and various other aspects  in addition to being the recipient of international commendations twice by being adjudged the most distinguished and best artiste at all award festivals, she has already sought the advice of three lawyers to appear on her behalf where her rights were concerned. Sirs/Mesdames,
I would wish to place the following facts in respect of the above.

I have never made an insulting statement to anybody. There is nothing that I could gain in the Field or in my personal life by insulting anyone in the Field. I have not insulted Semini Iddamalgoda specially. I have not done anything which defames her name. I have sent a reply through my lawyer Samanthi Gamage in response to the letter of demand sent be Semini's lawyers and that I would be filing action claiming Rs.1000 million damages for the damage done. However though it has been publicised by the media that Semini iddamalgoda has filed legal action against me, so far I have not received summons from any court of law [till 25.03.2013]

 I have as an artiste represented all areas such as that connected to dubbing, singing as well as dancing (cinema, stage, teledrama) in the Field of Arts for 32 years and had been successful in bringing glory to this country on two occasions and have won the best and distinguished awards at all award festivals held in the country. If any legal action is taken to disgrace my name by bringing forward unfounded allegations with malicious intent, I have instructed my lawyers Mrs.Samanthi Gamage, Mr.Pradeep Gamage and Senior Counsel Mr.Neville Abeyratna to appear in courts on my behalf and to prove my innocence to protect my legal rights and to claim for me my damages as a result of causing damage to my name.

 I thank very much everyone in the Field for being a strength to me, all friends, producers and directors, all my loving fans spread all over Sri Lanka and all my loving fans overseas for being a strength to me by giving various advice.

 What I have to tell all of you is that there is no other conscience greater than self-conscience and that truth is victorious. I handle matters in this connection too with great self-confidence.
