Having participated in the marathon event at school’s sports meet Kawshalya has fallen into a drain and died
Having participated in the inter house sports meet a participant in the marathon event had fallen into a drain in a by lane Kawshalya had died. It is reported from a National school in Chilaw, the girl who died is Kawshalya Pavitrani a 19 year old student in the grade 13 Arts stream.
She has participated in the marathon event and when the teachers and other students had seen her unable to complete the distance had fallen into a drain. The teachers’ and fellow students had rushed her to the Chilaw General hospital, but she has already passed away before admission.
When the post mortem was held the judiciary medical officer had disclosed that she had possessed in her heart certain arteries that are not normal. Owing to respiratory artery complications she had suffered a heart ailment was made known as the cause for her death. The Director of the Chilaw District hospital Dr (Mrs) Dinusha Jayasinghe disclosed and confirmed the cause of her death as she possessed a heart that was not normal.
It is made to understand the deceased had been living from her younger days with this defective condition. It is however mentioned that according to circulars issued by the Ministry of education a medical check up had been made to all participants before the commencement of the marathon. It is learnt that as she was in a sound physical condition such a medical was not needed for her.
She is a resident of kanumketiya area,Illipadeniya in chilaw.her father R.D.Somasiri on hearing this news had sustained a minor heart attack unable to bear the shock had collapsed. He had been admitted to the Chilaw General hospital for treatment. It is reliably learnt that Kawshalya is a bright student is school and had previously participated in inter House School sports meets and had won several events. she had participated in this event with the intention of winning.
It is learnt that the drain into which she fell had contained dirty water. The Public Health Inspectors had not made any concern to clean up the dirty water in the drain whilst checking drains during the anti dengue campaign.This is a matter of grave concern.
