THREATS OVER SHIRANI SUPPORTERS

The neck of a Lawyer who supported Shirani squeezed

A category of people had hurt Lawyers in different way for having supported former Chief Justice Dr Shirani Bandaranayake in the impeachment motion process. Some had received threatening calls. Against these threats a protest petition is to be signed from today. This has been revealed by a Lawyers organisation it is reported.
A certain group had followed a lady lawyer and had squeezed her neck having kept a motor cycle behind her it is reported. This lady lawyer and another Lawyer who related this story refrained from mentioning their names.
Two other President Counsels M/s Jayampathy Wickremaratna and Romesh de Silva are two other lawyers who had been subjected to threats. A Member of Parliament M.A.Sumantheran and J.C.Weliamuna are other lawyers who have been victims of these threats.
In the meantime ‘the transparency organisation’ had disclosed that those who supported the former Chief justice be given sufficient protection. However the security given to the Dr Shirani Bandaranayake had been withdrawn. A spokesman for the Police Senior Superintendent of Police had disclosed that after the post of Chief Justice is relinquished the security too is simultaneously withdrawn. However if she insists on having security, the request would be considered.
