Two students from a school in Hambantota obtain highest marks in two subjects, Biology and Combined Mathematics, brings laurels to the Rajapaksa’s.
The results of the GCE (Advanced Level) 2012 examination were released by the Department of Examination yesterday evening. A most significant feature was that two students from a rural school namely Weeraketiya Rajapaksa Madhya Maha Vidyalaya had secured highest marks in two subjects from among all students in the entire island. The two subjects were Biology and Combined Mathematics.
This speciality is difficult to describe in a very competitive examination like this. It is usually a student from a Colombo’s popular school who invariably scores the highest marks. In this case two students from the same school in a rural environment had beaten all students in Colombo’s so called ‘posh’ schools having very much better facilities. This is very special to Hambantota which has definitely brought laurels to the President’s entire family and generation.
In this examination under Index number 4896840 Kasun Lakmal had scored the highest marks in the subject Biology and had come first in the Island with a Z score of 29351.In the same school the student under Index number 4897587 Rusiru Rangika Gambeeraarachchi had scored the highest marks among all students in the subject Combined Mathematics and had secured a Z score of 29604.
Both students had secured B passes for General English paper while for the general knowledge had scored 85 & 87 marks respectively.
The two students Kasun and Rusiru were happy that they had beaten students in popular schools in Colombo and they had disclosed to the media and this was a result of their dedication for their studies. The results sheets are shown below:
