One of the most tragic incidents reported is the one that was heard from those 231 persons Killed in the night club fire in Brazil. Those killed were between the ages of 16 to 20 years who had patronised the night club. Some had died of suffocation, breathing toxic air. Some had died when they were trying to escape from the premises which had only one exit for a crowd of nearly 2000 persons inside.
The incident had taken place in the southern Brazil, in a city called ‘Santana Maria’ inside a night club called ‘kiss’. The fire broke out from the stage where the band was in attendance on the 27th instant at around 2 a.m. The band boys on the band stage had used some fire display during their performance which had caught fire to the curtains above which had caused the fire at initially and then had started to spread very speedily.
When the fire broke out there was huge scramble for the guests to get out of the entrance outlet while the rest could not succeeding getting out were forced to inhale the toxic smoke were trapped inside the club premises and had died of suffocation. As the exit doors were locked by the security, hence getting out was a challenge to those who died. This was a cause for the increase in the death toll.
When the incident was reported the relatives and friends had rushed to the scene and started to cry screaming. There were 231 youngsters had met with their tragic deaths. Over 100 were admitted to hospital for treatment out of which 81 has sustained serious injuries. The cremations of the majority of those killed had already taken place. The Night Club owners and five members of the ‘band’ had been taken into custody by the Police.
The next football World cup in scheduled to be held in Brazil in the year 2014.The count down to 500 days ceremony was due to take place shortly in the central city of Brazil. Owing to this tragedy the event as a mark of respect to those who died and injured has been postponed.
