A student who has left home after quarreling with the parents has been raped by a van driver.

A student in grade 8 who has left home after fighting with her parents has been raped by a van driver in Kalutara. This student who has been residing in Wadduwa had asked money for fashions and when the parents have rejected her request, she had left the house.
She had left the house once before after threatening that she won’t return home and yet she had come back. Therefore the parents have thought that she will go to one of her friend’s house and that she will come back. A day had passed and since she hadn’t returned home, the parents have made a complaint to the police.
In between the police have got a tip about a girl who has been walking along the roads in desperation and they have made inquiries. Then it has been revealed about the harassments faced by her. She has been walking along the roads in Kalutara and a driver has stopped the vehicle and showed interest in her and asked about her whereabouts. Then he has made a proposal to go to a peaceful place to talk further and he had later taken her to a hotel room. She has told that she has been sexually abused in the night. She has got scared that she will get pregnant and then he had brought her birth control tablets on the next day as a consolation for what had happened.
Afterwards he has proposed her to spend the night with him again. She has rejected his proposal and has insisted that she wants to go to one of her friend’s house in Matara and the van driver had boarded her into a Matara bound bus.
She has gone to her friend’s and found that her friend isn’t at home and afterwards she has been walking and loitering along the roads aimlessly. She has been wondering as what to do since she had walked out of the house after quarreling with her parents.
She has been admitted to Matara General Hospital for a medical examination and the police have advised the parents on the importance of parenting.
Police have started investigations to catch the rapist.
