The triple murders at Ratmalana UPDATES 4
“No No Sir, I do not know anything”.
The murders were disclosed when the Police read out his love telephone conversations and the SMS messages which contained ‘love’ messages.
The suspect of the triple murder Maduranga De Silva had confessed to the Police the truth after been interrogated for a number of hours. Initially he had said ‘ No No Sir, I do not know anything”. He disclosed everything only after 18 long hours in the wee hours of the following morning. This was when he was informed of the long telephone calls he had taken and from extracts of ‘sms’ messages. As initially stated his wife was strangled to death not after an argument the two have had. He had strangled her to death while she was fast asleep.
The suspect had been having an idea to marry and live with his new wife at any cost, He had purchased a house at Katubedda for a sum of Rs 45 lakhs.The Police had not initially realised that he had killed his wife and the two kids. He had confessed that” this could never happen as he loved his wife and kids so much and even more than his mother. “The day before the incident he had taken them to play to Katubedda and had come home after dinner. They had no conflicts and lived as a happy family” the mother had confessed.
“No Sir I do not know anything’ .What the mother told above was said by him too .I only knew when my mother screamed, when I came from the next door to put off the flame. Police without mush suspicion had obtained a statement from him. He was arrested on the orders of the OIC of the crime branch, Eric Rohana on suspicion.
“ Whatever he tells the OIC had said he is the person who had committed the brutal murders of his wife and two sons and he was ordered to be questioned without interruption. He was questioned by the HQI and the head of the crimes breach continuously for four hours. Still he on the opinion that “ he knew nothing about it” .They had perused all calls and sms messages he had taken from his mobile phone the previous day.
That night according to the suspect he had heard a noise from his wife’s room and had gone to see what was it. He had seen a man worn in black dress inside th room. He had assaulted the suspect and fled away. The suspect had told he was aware that his wife has had an illegal affair with someone whom he had seen walking with her one dat after school while coming home.
The Police had asked whether his marriage was a proposed wedding.
He had said “no’ it was initiated via a love affair. Then the officers got more interested. The suspects father had been a resident of Akurala area in Ambalangoda and had shifted to Ratmalana when Maduranga got through his Grade 5 scholarship examination and entered a poplar national school in Colombo. The two had met while attending to computer training classes and had fallen in love. They had got married on 8th may 2006 with the blessings of parents of both parties. They have had their first son three years ago and the infant son just one month ago.
Suddenly some senior police officers had come with the information of the lengthy telephone conversations he has had recently. Some had been over one hour and some for a period of about 45 minutes. When they arrived with this information they had spoken loudly for him to get frightened saying that they have got all the correct information that led to the triple murders. The officers had asked if he lived so happily why did he kill them.
To whom did you speak for hours over your mobile phone, tell us the truth.”Who is at that number” they had asked? Then he said he will disclose the truth. He was shivering, stammering when giving answers and was sweating as he was guilty He had confessed that it was he who killed them. This disclosure he had made after 16 hours of thorough interrogation
The suspect had come to this attractive girl 20 years old, a teacher at an International school in Negombo via the FACE BOOK He had met her at her French language class several times pretending to b a bachelor..He had purchased a house for Rs 45 lahks for them to live after marriage. He had somehow wanted her to be married to him and it was his prime aim at any cost. He initially had thought of divorcing her. But as he would get the blame from all around and will have face a lot of shame was a matter of concern to him. After planning everything he had left his job.
The manner he made the murders as confessed by him are as follows:
On that day when the wife and the sons were fast asleep he had entered the wife’s room and strangled her neck when she was struggling the elder son had woken and had tried to out of the room saying “Archchi, Archchi”. The suspect had dragged him and also strangled him to death. Then he had made sure that his wife too was dead and strangled the one month old son also .He then had kept the infant son near her breast as if he was drinking milk from the mother. He had late poured perfume from a bottle his wife had used on the net and set fire with a candle and had closed the room and fled away to upstairs. This he had done not to have any suspicion. He had not been able to sleep that night.
Early morning as if nothing had taken place he had gone to the next house as he knew that when his mother gets up she goes to see the children, and had some creams from his mother. Then only he had come to see what had happened pretending not to know what really he committed. He too had screamed and cried. As he knew well that all had been murdered he had handed over in a hurry to a relative a sum of Rs 2 lakhs to spend for the funeral as he would not be in his normal senses. In the meantime he had told that he may have to accompany his mother to the Police station, to give a statement.
After committing the murders he could spend only a few hours before he was proved to be the suspect. For his dream girl friend to forget him it had taken only just a few hours.
After this incident his step mother would never accept him again. Presently he is at the Welikada prison.
