The real father had been identified after the funeral
A story of a daughter who has identified a dead body in the mortuary to be of her father who had been a mason had been brought home for the final rights too be given was reported last week. It was also reported that her real father has visited them after two weeks from the funeral of the dead body which they have brought home from the mortuary. It was revealed that they have buried another person’s dead body due to a misidentification.
The dead body which was buried had been dug out and another family had identified it to be their father. It had been a 71 year old person named Chaneris Fernando who had been residing in Anguruwathota.
When the news of the “A Dead father returns home” had been published in the newspapers, the other family had identified that the buried man to be their father who had been missing for a while. The photos taken at the funeral had helped them to identify the person.
The relatives had requested to dig the body out but since a court order is necessary for a body to be dug out from the Kithulawa cemetery, they explained the necessity of it to be informed the court and dug the buried body out. Before the body was taken to the home, the court ordered to send it back to Kalutara, Nagoda hospital and to Gene Tec Institute to verify the details from a DNA test.
The cause for all this trouble had been created due to a daughter who had not been able to identify her father. She had misidentified someone else’s body and brought it home to perform final rites to her dead father. They have done all the religious rituals after keeping the dead body in their house for a couple of days and the body has been buried. After two weeks from the funeral, the real father had come home surprised to hear about his own funeral while he has been alive. He has come home asking as to ‘who has pasted obituary notices on him all over the road sides’. He had explained that he had gone to a faraway place and that he hadn’t returned home as he had got continuous work in masonry profession.
