Oshin which was a production of NHK channel of Japan and was telecasted in more than fifty eight countries in the world, with different languages The story which became very popular among Sri Lankans is being telecasted again at present.
Three actresses were portraying Oshin’s character in three different stages- childhood, youth and old age. Oshin was shot in 1980 and Oshin’s childhood was played by Ayaki Kabayasi who was 8 years at that time and was born in 1970 in Tokyo. She is 40 years old now and she is still working as an actress. Oshin’s youth was played by an award winning actress whose name was Yuko Tanaka who was born in 1955. She had been 25 years old when she first started portraying Oshin’s role and now she is 57 years old. Most of the movies in which she acted had been award winners. One of her recent movies is called “Dear” in which she acted in 2012.
Noboki Otova was the actress who played the role of Oshin’s old age and she too had been an award winning actress. She has now passed away. She who was born in 1925 in Totary had died due to a liver cancer in 1994 when she had been 69 years old. She had acted in around 134 films and she is the wife of famous Caneto Sindo. Could you believe that the producers have faced a lot of difficulty in finding a TV channel to telecast Oshin which had attracted so many fans worldwide?

Starting from the 1983, Oshin had been telecasted in HNK channel for over a period of a year. !5 minutes of Oshin had been telecasted daily at 6 a.m in the morning and the same episode had been re-telecasted in the evening at 6 p.m. It was said that the Japanese working crowd had got used to watch the Oshin before going for work.
It was said that Oshin influenced the attitudes and thinking patterns of Japanese people as it had been a story of hard working along with which it depicted good qualities such as kindness and compassion.

It is said that Yaohan business industry had been spread over 16 countries including Malaysia, America, Singapore and China by the end of 1980s and there had been around 450 supermarkets worldwide. After her death, the business had been owned by her son Kasuwo Wada and the business had been deteriorated after he had taken over. Furthermore, after the 1998 Economic Crisis, the business had faced a total lost.
Thus it had been sold to another person as Kasuwo Wada had not been in a position to pay all his debts. It is reported that Oshin’s son is now working as a Internet Economic Instructor after he had lost his business after the economic crisis.
Oshin had been telecasted successfully in 58 countries and thus it is supposed to be converted into a movie after its popularity. A Japanese company named Sedick International had started the work of the film at ‘Yamagata’ changing its modern looks back into the old tradition. This has been a production of the Oscar award winner Mitiso Susuki and it is reported that none in the old cast had been utilised for the film.
