The story of the Wellawatta murderer who killed Father, Mother and Sister had lived a luxurious life:
The 28th year old Prashan kumaraswamy who had killed his parents and sister had been arrested by the Police.After he was arrested he had made a confession to the Police.
A passenger in a bus in which Prashan also had travelled had suspected him to be the murderer from his photographs that were displayed for the public to locate him. His clue had worked when the information was given to the Police Crime Division. He had been inside a Kurunegala bound bus and had been arrested at Kadawatha area by the Police Crime Division with the help of the Kadawatha Police.
After he was arrested he had confessed that he in debt to the tune of over Rs 30 lahks for several people. In order to settle some of the debts his intention was to request his father to give his provident fund money to him.
He had requested his father for his money. As he did not consent to his request he had thought of killing him, mother and sister by giving poison. He had added a poisonous substance to Yoghurt and given them.
At the time he was arrested he had in his possession the three National Identity Cards of the deceased. It had been known made to his villages that he was holding a high professional and position in the private sector and he was a person with a lot of means. He had led a luxurious life using lap tops and had used cars that were taken on rent. All this money he had been borrowing from people known to him and close associates.
The last time he travelled to his village kotagala was also in a rented out car to bring this father, mother and sister to Colombo. He has had plans to rob his father’s provident fund money for him to pay his debts. Since he was not able to get his money he had poisoned them by giving yoghurt mixed with poison and had locked the door in his room and left. After that he had visited his Kotagala house to see whether money of his father’s provident fund had been kept there.
He had been very upset in not finding the money and had been loitering here and there in the next few days.
He is to be produced before courts very shortly.
