Both Afridi and McCullum had given the identical reason that they are leaving as their wives are sick
The foreign cricketers who signed and were auctioned to play in the inaugural Sri Lanka Premier League cricket tournament had shown low and moderate interest in the participation in the ongoing SLPL tournament.
A lot of very recognised foreign cricketers who attracts spectators in the likes of Chris Gayle have pulled out of the tournament even before the tournament got off the blocks.
It is now learnt from reliable and well informed sources that two prominent cricketers, Shahid Afridi and Nathan McCullum of Pakistan and New Zealand respectively had left the SLPL and Sri Lanka to their respective
countries stating the same reason as” their wives are sick”.
It is learnt that Shadid Afridi’s wife is supposed to be hospitalised and that she may have to undergo an operation, while Nathan Mccullum’s wife is expecting a baby and he is supposed to be with her. The former, Shahid Afridi had promised to return in the event her conditions become stable.
It is the view of many that they may have left owing to certain influences made to them by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
