STATE SECTOR DOCTORS ON STRIKE TODAY

The reason for the strike is because a bomb was thrown into a surgeon’s garden which had not exploded:

Today all state doctors are on a token strike. The reason is for throwing a bomb in to the compound of a Doctors residence which had not exploded. This has happened at 8.45 in the morning yesterday (16th) when the Doctor had dressed up and was ready to go for work.
Dr Lalantha Ranasinghe, a specialist surgeon had informed the Police about the incident. The Police from the Dehiwala Police station had called over almost immediately and had defused the bomb. It was found to be a bomb that belonged to the Defence Department.
Before the strike which began today the strike had already commenced at the Colombo’s National Hospital. When an assurance was given that an investigation would be conducted, the GMOA had taken a drastic decision affecting the innocent patients.
Dr Lalantha Ranasinghe is not a medical officer who is holding any responsible post in the GMOA. He is however he is just a normal member. It is reported that this Specialist Surgeon is one who is against the establishment of private medical colleges.
In protest of the throwing of a bomb, a strike had commenced yesterday the 16th and is to continue until today the 17th up to 4 p.m. This was made known by the Additional Secretary of the GMOA Dr Nalin Ariyaratna who revealed that this is only a protest token strike.
