The word rain was made a bit mod and made it as ‘RAINI’ and similarly wind was made ‘WINDY’ by making it mod too:
Raini is studying to become a pilot while Windy’s ambition is to be a medical specialist in Dermatology:
After taking over a FM channel, Rookantha gave it up after working in it for a period less than two months and left to America again. The family who are permanent citizens of America are back in Sri Lanka to perform a musical concert very shortly involving all of them. An interview had been given by Rookantha to the last Sundays ‘Lankadeepa’ newspaper emphasising more about the daughters Raini and Windy which is appended below:
What is the type of life in New York?
“Very much contended life but very expensive. New York is the place in America which is most expensive. At the beginning we found it bit difficult to adjust ourselves. Now of course we just cannot think of leaving the New York City.”
How do you spend your day?
“In the morning I help Windy to get ready to go to her school. I am the person who takes her to school. For Raini’s school she has to go to another state where she lives in the hostel and come home for the week end. I attend to all the household work. Sri Lankan groceries are found in an Asian food market. There you could buy even dry fish and manioc. We prepare a typical Sri Lankan food for consumption. We live with mental and physical happiness. We travel once a week to see the New York City. It is so large that we cannot see everything in a day.”
What news of the daughters?
Elder, Raini receives her higher studies in the Delaware State University. Her ambition is to become a pilot. Windy is a student at St Island high school and her ambition is to qualify as a specialist doctor, in Dermatology.
Why is that you did not like them to be stars like both of you?
“Yes. Why not I like it and they too like it. Not only in Sri Lanka many students like to get specialised in some field and then get famous as ‘stars’ in the field of arts and aesthetic fields. The world over all prominent personalities in the field of Arts are engaged in their own professions/businesses. Hence they too like the similar way.”
In America people have a fast living and they are always busy. Could your daughters also cope like them?
“It was not a problem as we brought them up in a similar fashion, thought them the correct path according to the life and culture. They understood the criteria needed and they also are adapted to the culture over there.”
Why did you name the daughters as Raini and Windy? Is there a speciality?
“Initially Raini’s name was given thinking of rain. It was quite a nice name having made the word rain a bit ‘mod’. We never thought that the second child to be a daughter. The name Windy was given to make it a bit similar to the name Raini thinking of ‘wind’. Now we are enclosed between rain and wind.”
