Ven. Pitiduwe Siridhamma had been chased away from the village adjoining his own ancestral village:Yesterday evening, Ven. Pitiduwe Siridhamma had been chased away by the villagers of Poddala, close to Galle on his way for a dhamma sermon. The white cab in which Venerable was travelling he had been stopped on his way by an organized group of people and had sabotaged the proposed program.
It had been reported that there had been about 15 body guards had escorted the Venerable Thera. The youth who had gathered mostly among the villagers had got into a fight and conflict with them.
The people and the monks who have gathered had displayed boards and placards stating that Ven. Pitiduwe Siridhamma is supposed to be carrying out an Anti-Buddhist principle and that he has been spreading false dharma sermons.
There were a lot of rumors about Ven. Pitiduwe Siridhamma during the past few months as he had stated that he had attained to the level of “Sakrudhagami” and accordingly he changed his name and called himself Rev. Samantha Bhadda. At the same time he changed the style of his dhamma sermons as well. Once, it was reported that his monastery ‘Siri Saddamma’ at Bellantara at Pepiliyana was raided by some monks and people who had been against him.
Even though, media discussions were held to talk against these demonstrations, many photographs of the Venerable thera were published all over the internet against him. Yesterday too those photographs and placards were displayed in public in the protest. The people who were gathered had been telling that they should not allow him to hold dharma sermons as those sermons are all anti- Buddhist sermons.
After the incidents that took place during the past few months, Ven. Siridhamma rarely participated for sermons which were organized in outstations. Yet, he had decided to go to a sermon which had been organized at Poddala close to his own home town. The protests had been well organized beforehand.
