Wife’s suspicion about the death of
Consultant Neuro Surgeon and former Head of sports Medicine Unit:

The former Head of sports Medicine in the Ministry of Sports and Consultant Neuro Physician had passed away in the wee hours of yesterday. His wife had disclosed that his death is a suspicious one. She had lodged a complaint in this regard to a Deputy Inspector General of Police, who had ordered the Jayaratna Funeral Undertakers to allow a post mortem to be carried out.

He was a renowned Consultant neuro Physician and a Sports medicine personality and was a the Head of the sports medicine unit since he was appointed to the post by the then Minister of Sports Nanda Mathew. He was very recently scrapped from this
post by the present Minister of Sports Mahindagama  Aluthgamage.

He had been ill for a short period of time and had been at the Nawaloka private hospital since the 15th of last month. He had been treated at the Intensive
Care Unit of Nawaloka hospital only for just 2 days. He had been treated by a
team of doctors headed by Consultant surgeon Dr Maiya Gunasekera.The diagnosis had been that he had been identified as for an ailment of an inflated area of the rectum. However the cause of death had been given as a ‘Heart Attack’.He was 62 years old at the time of his demise.
He had also got very frustrated when the media published that
he failed in his duties and not done justice to his post when several sportsmen
were vying to register their names in the Guinness book of World records.

 It was made to understand on several occasions he had not followed the correct procedures over a period of time which in turn had deprived several sportsmen who had worked very hard, to register their names in Guinness Book of World records. It is learnt that he had aimed allegations against the Minister of Sports.
However it is yet to be known how his death ultimately occurred. The investigations in this regard are carried out by the Colombo’s Police crime Division.
