What is the story behind Minoli who died after falling from a fourth story of a building?
Tensed situation at Kosgama
A tensed situation was reported from Kosagama due to the murder of a pretty young woman who had gone to Saudi Arabia as a domestic servant. Her death body had been sent home and it learnt that she had died one and half months ago.
It is stated that she had died after falling from a four storyed building. A proper medical report or a post mortem had not been done and the cause for her death is unidentified. Only her death body had been sent home. Hence about 3000 people who had come for the funeral had gathered and they had protested on the main road with the coffin placed in the middle of the town requesting the relevant authorities to take appropriate action on this case.
Minoli Dharmasena who is dead had been a 24 year old having had a child. According what her husband, Senarath Wijeratne had said::
“My wife went abroad about 11 months ago with the hope of earning money to build a house and to give a good education to our child. When she wanted to go abroad I told to find more details before going. She found an agency in somewhere in Borella with the help of one of our neighbors. She called us during the first 3 months after she left. She inquired about our child every day. Afterwards she told me that it is difficult for her to stay since they are troubling her. Then a call came on the 04th of February from one of her friends’ saying that she had passed away after falling from a four story building. I went to the agency and them to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and complained.”
After one and half months of Minoli’s death, the body was brought to Sri Lanka on the 28th of March with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The relatives were aggressive towards the authorities since no action had been taken so far. Yesterday a protest was held in Kosgama blocking the Avissawella- Colombo road. About 3000 people joined in the protest and they placed the dead body in a tent that was built on the road and continued their protest for over 4 hours. Thus the Avissawella -Colombo main road was blocked and the Kosgama town took the form of a battle field because the protestors burnt tires and the whole town was covered with smoke.
