A 94 year old elected as ‘Avurudu Kumari’ at Elders home:
It is traditionally and invariably a young beautiful girl is elected as the ‘Avurudu Kumari’ at the AVURUDU KUMARI contests held during the period of the Sinhala-Tamil New Year.
However in complete contrast to the traditional ‘Avurudu Kumari contests a similar contest was organised and was held at a ‘Elders’ home located along Saranakara Road, Dehiwala. In this contest the ‘Avurudu Kumari’ elected was 94 year old m/s Emalin while the second and third places were won by m/s Podi Menika and Padma.
