Sri Lanka deprived the opportunity of clinching the ‘CB’ trophy:
Today Sri Lanka was defeated by host team Australia by a narrow margin of 16 runs in the d/n match played at the Adelaide Oval. With 2-1 margin of wins Australia clinched the ‘CB’ trophy.
Ari Lankan skipper having won the toss invited Australia to bat first on a slower pitch which although was going to behave with a lower bounce and become slower for the team batting second. Sri Lanka was able to restrict the Australians to just 231 runs in 49.3 0vers.
Chasing a gettable score Sri Lanka were placed in a disastrous position when they lost skipper Mahela Jayawadena for 15 runs in the 10th over with the score board reading 4 wickets for just 53 runs. Upula Tharanga who scored 71 runs and Lahiru Thirimanne who scored 30 runs brought some respectability to the score by adding 60 runs for the 5th wicket in 17.1 0vers. This was the only worthwhile partnership for Sri Lanka. The rest of the batsmen failed to offer much resistance and Sri Lanka was all out for 215 runs in the 49 over.
Clint Mckay of Australia was named ‘Player of the Match’ for his 5 wicket haul. Sri Lanka’s Tillekeratna Dilshan was named ‘Player of the Series’ for scoring over 500 runs, for taking wickets and for his brilliant fielding.
