FONSEKA ACQUITTED IN HI-CORP CASE

Sarath Fonseka acquitted from the charges of Hi-Corp fraud case by the High Court

Sarath Fonseka was acquitted of all the charges made against him of the Hi-Corp court case.
The High Court judge, Sunil Rajapakse was stating that Sarath Fonseka cannot be made to be convicted twice for the same offence. He was charged of forwarding fake documents, and for defrauding the army through violating the procedures laid down in submitting tender documents.
The Court Martial case filed against him and the Hi-corp case are two cases being filed for the same offence. Sunil Rajapakse the Colombo High Court judge acquitted him of his charges stating that two cases for the same offence cannot be heard for him to be convicted. Thus, the former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka was acquitted of his charges.
This decision was taken as a response to the objection made by Saliya Peiris, the Lawyer who appeared on behalf of Sarath Fonseka.
