DEYATA KIRULA-’96 ICC CRICKET WORLD CUP

Two gold nails in the ICC cricket World Cup ’96 found missing after it was exhibited to the Public at Deyata Kirula

At the Deyata Kirula exhibition which was concluded in Anuradhapura recently, the World Cricket Cup won by Sri Lanka under the leadership of Member of Parliament, Arjuna Ranatunga was exhibited for people to view having kept it on a tall stool without having kept it inside a glass case. There were several other Cups and Trophies, Sri Lanka had won too were exhibited for people to view.
It was observed that two expensive gold nails that had been fixed to the Cup had been removed from the Cup, probably by some unscrupulous elements. The manner it was kept there was every possibility for anyone to touch or meddle with it. The authorities had seen some scratches on this very important and expensive Cricket World Cup Which Sri Lanka won in 1996. The missing white plated gold nails were noticed missing when it was brought back to the SLC Headquarters.
In the other Trophies and Cups that were displayed it was also observed that they too have had scratches on them and some of the parts in them too were missing. Some had very noticeable ‘dents’ on them.
It is reliably learnt that still the related authorities of the SLC are still not aware of these acts and the enormous amounts of damages caused to the ’96 World Cup and other Cups and Trophies the Sri Lankan cricketers had won.
